UK MPs Establish New Parliamentary Group for Ethical Vaping

An important step forward has been the formation of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Responsible Vaping. The association wants to make sure that the government's anti-vaping policies are fair and that the industry is recognized for its contributions. The APPG for Responsible Vaping acts as a focal point for concerns related to vaping, emphasizing sector responsibility in tackling major problems related to vaping.

It illustrates the advantages of quitting smoking and backs an evidence-based strategy for regulating e-cigarettes. Members of parliament from all party stripes, including a former health secretary, founded the organization.

During the first meeting, Dartford MP Gareth Johnson was elected Chair. Other elected officials include Mark Eastwood, Mark Logan, and MP Mary Glindon, who serves as vice chair. The new organization is receiving assistance from the Independent British Vape Trade Association (IBVTA) in its endeavors.

According to their findings, vaping helps between 50,000 and 70,000 more people in England give up smoking. It is evident that excessive flavor limitations would jeopardize the government's goals of having a smoke-free society by 2030 when Members of Parliament vote on proposed rules during the Tobacco and Vapes Bill's approval.

In Parliament, the APPG will serve as a focal point for matters pertaining to vaping, especially when it comes to lobbying the government to propose a number of laws in the next months. To control the industry, these steps include a new vape tax, possible flavor limitations, and a prohibition on disposable electronics.

The APPG will also aim to identify and promote industry best practices for helping people stop smoking. It will deal with important concerns including preventing kids from getting vaporizers, safeguarding the environment, and combating the black market for vaporizers.

In an attempt to solve these problems, the industry has changed its products, descriptions, and flavors in addition to introducing an industry code of conduct.

The chair of the Responsible Vaping APPG, Gareth Johnson MP, stated:

"I've been curious about the advantages of vaping for a while.

Millions of former smokers in the UK have now given up due to vaping. But given the sheer amount of legislation that will be introduced in this area over the next 18 months, it's imperative that we strike the appropriate balance.
