Wheeler Departs AVM; Co-Founder Char Owen Steps in as President

The American Vapor Manufacturers Association revealed at the beginning of January that Amanda Wheeler, co-founder and president of AVM, had left the trade association to take a job in government affairs at Philip Morris International, a company that is currently expanding into the United States. Wheeler will still provide advice to AVM, which she co-founded in 2020 with Char Owen, the owner of Cloud 9 Vapor Shop.
Owen became the trade group's president after Wheeler left, and Allison Boughner will assume the vice president position. In addition to holding positions in many local and national industry advocacy groups, Boughner is the director of marketing and communications for Ecig Charleston, a vape store chain and manufacturer of e-liquids located in South Carolina.
As head of legislative and external relations, Gregory Conley joined AVM this summer. He is also the president of the American Vaping Association.
The World Health Organization's tobacco control initiatives may save more than 1.8 million lives over the next 40 years if items like e-cigarettes, vapes, snus, and nicotine pouches were used instead of tobacco control measures, as mentioned by a new study. The researchers said that because attempts to stop smoking globally have halted and present methods of tobacco control have proved ineffective, immediate action is needed to address the prevalence of smoking that is still prevalent today.
Today, the FDA said that a tiny e-liquid producer has agreed to stop operations by entering into a consent agreement with the US Department of Justice. This is the fourth time that the DOJ and FDA have closed down minor vape makers via injunction procedures.
The FDA today announced the creation of a "multi-agency task force" to clamp down on the sale of well-known vaping devices that have not gotten FDA permission, in a news statement that seems like it came straight out of the Drug War period. The targeted items are available online as well as in the majority of convenience stores, vape shops, and petrol stations.
